Seniors

It's the year that planning ahead is very important! We have tried to make it as easy as possible to get your thoughts in order. Our efforts will ease your mind when it comes to the question.....WHAT COMES NEXT!?!?!?!

Right after your senior year begins, each counselor will hold individual senior meetings. During this time, they will go over aspects of college decision making and discuss your options after high school. Counselors have created a packet of useful information for seniors. The senior packet can be accessed here beginning in September.

You will also be covering the ins and outs of Naviance/Family Connection. Students can use it to complete college and career research and access and request transcripts. Students have access to an individualized account to document and record their career and college planning activities. The account can be accessed at: http://connection.naviance.com/cocalicoshs To log in:

If letters of recommendation are required, teachers may want you to fill out the Recommendation Letter Form. Students should give teachers at least 2-3 weeks to complete their letter so plan ahead. Not every college or university requires recommendations, so be sure you pay close attention to the documents needed as you apply. This recommendation letter process is handled between the teacher and student only. The Counseling Office will not be handling recommendation letters.

Visiting colleges or universities of your choice is a great idea! We encourage you to visit as many different types as possible. Do you like the feel of a large campus vs. a small one? Are you more comfortable in larger lecture hall or smaller classrooms? Would you be more at home in the country or do you prefer a city? All these things and much more should be considered when determining if a school is right for you. .

Additionally throughout the year, college representatives visit Cocalico, and students can sign up for the question and answer sessions. Students are notified via Schoology, through Naivance, and on school bulletin boards with dates and times. All such meetings will be held in the Counseling Office.

After visiting and making pros and cons lists, talking to your counselor and parents, you should be ready to start on your college applications! Most colleges have you apply directly on their website, others may direct link you to the Common Application or another online submission site. All CHS students will use Naviance for recording college applications, updating the status of their application once they have applied, requesting transcripts,  and submitting recommendation letters.

Future Plans:

Throughout the year as you finalize your post high school plans, please stop by our office to share the exciting news with the counseling staff. We like to hear about your college/trade/technical school acceptances and decisions, military commitments, co-op opportunities, internship experiences, part-time employment, full-time employment offers, and any other career planning activities. In May, all seniors will be asked to complete a Senior/Graduate survey on Naviance.
